A Buff® addict speaks out
Big Image of Kath Salotti wearing an Original Buff® as helmet liner

I've come to terms with my addiction these days. It's been about 2 years since I first tried a BUFF, and now I own maybe a dozen on them.

As with other addictions I've read about, it began in such a small way..."just one or two, that's all I need." Now it's 12...maybe more.

But if I've developed a "dependency", at least it's one I can talk about, in fact I boast about it. BUFFs are legal, safe, inexpensive and incredibly useful for a motorcyclist. I'm addicted because a BUFF is about the single most versatile piece of personal equipment I can wear as a rider.

I've been a rider or 13 years, and for 8 years I've been a fully-qualified motorcycle riding instructor. Motorcycles have been my only transport for all those 13 years, and I drag race my Buell in the Screamin' Eagle Series too.

But wait!! There's more!! These days I'm a Postie, so I spend a big part of every workday on two wheels as well. So...you get the drift...I ride a lot, and I ride everywhere.

Sometimes I need sun-protection, sometimes I want to ease the sting of a summer storm's wind-driven rain. Sometimes I need warmth, other times I'm desperate for a cooling breeze. There are occasions when vanity requires that my hair is tidy and not matted with sweat when I remove my helmet. And sometimes, I just want to be different, to stand out, to shock, or be stylish.

And then, a couple of years ago at Morgan & Wacker Motorcycles in Brisbane, I was shown and given a demo on a then-new product...a BUFF.

Amazing! A BUFF fulfils all those needs I mentioned, and plenty more. A BUFF display pack says "100% Polyester Technical Microfibre"...but after 2 years of wearing them, I can give you the real rider's opinion.

Somehow, that material warms me when it's cool, and cools when it's hot. Perspiration is drawn away and evaporates quickly so my BUFFs stay dry. They reflect sunlight and deflect heat, and in the rain the material doesn't become waterlogged...I can still breathe easily when it's over my face. A BUFF is incredibly light, easy to use, comfortable, can be taken anywhere in the smallest pocket, and so far they're indestructible.

All of those are my opinions, from my experiences...not "advertising copy"...and that's the first half of the reasons for my BUFF addiction. In summary, they're inexpensive yet a mini-masterpiece of technology, and they work.

The second half of my addiction-reasons is about the unbelievable variety of designs, styles and colours available. I can mix or match anything, fit my mood, make a statement, be as formal, fashionable or casual as I like...anywhere, on or off the bike.

Equally amazing and amusing are the so-far unlimited ways I've found of wearing a BUFF. I'm still playing around with twists and ties to create new and different looks...from very stylish to very strange...but all fun.

Finally, because I'm sending this to the BUFF people as a customer "testimonial" (and it's getting a bit long...), I'll conclude by saying that I can't accurately recall the last time I rode, for work or leisure, without wearing a BUFF.

I absolutely swear by them, and I urge every motorcyclist to check ‘em out at a quality bike dealer like Morgan & Wacker. Learn, try, buy and play...developing your addiction will be a pleasure.

April 2006

We met Kath the first time at the Morgan & Wacker (www.morganandwacker.com.au) tent on the 2004 Gold Coast Bike week (www.goldcoastbikeweek.com). It was the first month for Buff® in Australia and we were blown away by the great atmosphere of this event and had a ball with the entire Morgan & Wacker crew. Since then we can see the word of mouth spreading around touring bikers and when we met Kath again and she raved about the Buff® we asked her to write a few words. The above text is uncut and pasted straight away from the email into the website. Thanks for this Kath.
